In John 8:1-11, a woman caught in adultery is dragged before Jesus by religious leaders seeking to trap Him. Their goal wasn’t justice but division. They demanded punishment based on the law, but Jesus did something remarkable: He bent down, wrote in the dirt, and said, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.”
This story highlights the importance of shifting the focus from blame to resolution. Jesus didn’t deny the woman’s sin, but He also didn’t allow it to define her. Instead, He created an atmosphere for healing and restoration.
The Importance of Agreement in the Kingdom
Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Agreement is a spiritual principle that invites God’s presence and power. Without unity, relationships remain stuck in chaos and unresolved conflict.
To create agreement, we must:
Let go of past offenses. Forgiveness is not about who’s right; it’s about prioritizing God’s purpose over personal grievances.
Focus on reconciliation. The goal is not to win an argument but to restore relationships.
Seek God’s guidance. Agreement is not possible without inviting Him into the situation.
Binding and Loosing: A Framework for Healing
Jesus gave us the authority to bind and loose (Matthew 18:18). Binding restricts negative forces like bitterness, anger, or fear, while loosing releases peace, joy, and love. This framework is essential for healing broken relationships.
For example, when disagreements arise, instead of focusing on the issue, speak life over the relationship. Bind the spirit of division and loose God’s peace. This sets the stage for reconciliation and allows God’s presence to move.
Letting Go of the Past: Escaping the Cycle
Many relationships remain stuck in cycles of blame and unforgiveness. Like Lot’s wife (Genesis 19:26), looking back at past offenses can keep us from moving forward.
Jesus’ command to forgive “seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:22) reminds us that forgiveness is a continuous process. It’s not about denying what happened but choosing not to let it control the present.
Reflection and Call to Action: Seek Unity, Bind Chaos
Are there relationships in your life that need healing? Are you holding onto past offenses, preventing unity?
Call to Action: This week, pray for God to reveal areas of conflict that need resolution. Practice binding and loosing, speaking life over your relationships. Seek agreement with those you’ve been at odds with, focusing on reconciliation rather than blame.
Unity is a powerful force that invites God’s presence. As Matthew 18:19 says, “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Choose unity, and watch as God restores and strengthens your relationships.
