The anointing is God’s gift to believers, an empowerment for life and ministry. 2 Timothy 1:6 reminds us to “stir up the gift of God, which is in you.” This stirring is not automatic; it requires intentional action to rekindle the fire of the Holy Spirit within us.
Much like a fire that needs oxygen to burn, the anointing must be fanned and nurtured. Paul’s advice to Timothy was not just a reminder but a call to action. The gift within us—whether it’s teaching, leading, encouraging, or serving—needs to be actively engaged. God’s gifts are not meant to lie dormant; they are designed to transform lives.
Consider an artist who neglects their craft. Over time, their skills fade. Similarly, if we don’t engage the anointing, its impact diminishes. Stirring up the anointing involves prayer, worship, and a commitment to God’s purpose, ensuring that His power flows freely through us.

Operating in God’s Power
The anointing is not about us—it’s about God working through us. When we operate under the anointing, we reflect God’s power, wisdom, and love. This requires us to remain in alignment with His will, as stepping out of His plan disrupts the flow of His Spirit.
Think of the anointing as oil in an engine. Without oil, the engine cannot function effectively. Similarly, without the anointing, our efforts in ministry and life become strained and ineffective. By staying connected to God through prayer and obedience, we ensure that His anointing continues to flow.
Operating in the anointing also requires discernment. It’s important to recognize the specific assignments God has given us and to approach them with humility and dependence on Him. Whether it’s sharing a word of encouragement, praying for someone in need, or stepping into a leadership role, every action under the anointing carries the potential to impact lives profoundly.
Rekindling the Flame
There are seasons when the fire of the anointing may feel dim. Distractions, challenges, and fatigue can cause us to lose focus. However, God’s call to stir up the gift reminds us that the fire never truly goes out. Like a smoldering ember, it only needs the breath of the Holy Spirit to reignite.
Rekindling the anointing begins with self-reflection. Are there areas in your life where you’ve grown complacent? Have you allowed fear or doubt to stifle your gift? By addressing these areas and returning to God in prayer, you can reignite the flame.
Think of Moses, who encountered God through the burning bush. That encounter transformed him from a fugitive into a deliverer. Similarly, rekindling the anointing in your life can lead to breakthroughs, not just for you but for those you are called to impact. The anointing is not just for personal benefit; it is for the advancement of God’s kingdom.
Reflection
The anointing is a precious gift, one that requires intentional stewardship. Take time to evaluate how you are nurturing the gift within you. Are you actively stirring it up, or has it been left unattended? Pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit and commit to using your anointing to serve others. Remember, the fire of the anointing is meant to burn brightly, illuminating the way for others to encounter God.
